NEW ART EXHIBIT BY STEPHANIE J. BAUGH // QUAD CITY ARTS

with Karen Blomme / Matt Moyer

On exhibit from May 12th through June 30th 2017, will be artwork by Stephanie J. Baugh of Monmouth, IL; Karen Blomme of Davenport IA, and Matt Moyer of Columbia, MO.

Stephanie J. Baugh creates abstract panels that are expressions of self; reflecting her experiences, memories and conditions of conscience. Using a variety of techniques and materials, Baugh “distills an object, image, experience, or event down to essential shapes or movements can only happen when I soften my focus on the world and hold onto some quality of the experience that denies realistic representation.”

Karen Blomme presents “Social Exchange,” art based on methods of communication used in our present world. Blomme explains, “Social exchanges such as Emoji and Emoticon pictographics are used through social media to communicate, embrace and express humanistic visual concepts.” She combines depictions of people interacting with symbols people use as shortcuts to communicating. Her work is busy and layered, just as life is when one is having multiple conversations at once on Facebook.

Matt Moyer is a structural abstract artist. Conceptually, his work focuses on water and air distribution systems, both real and imaginary, and the ingenuity and materials needed to design and maintain them.   His sculptures have a heavy industrial feel, often employing articulated, implied movement referencing heavy machinery. His pieces, ranging from 9-14’ high, will make full use of Quad City Arts’ 14’ ceilings.
