Art Around Town: The Taste of QC Art

By Ian Fox

Taste Buds has teamed up to offer local artists and writers an opportunity to showcase their work in a sweet atmosphere. Get a taste of local art and literature while enjoying a taste of some delicious sweets and treats. A Taste of Q-C Art is a new rotating art and literary exhibit featuring area creators debuting at the downtown shop notable for its smoothies, coffees, candy and other snacks.

Every other Friday at 5 p.m. is an opening reception in which a new artist is featured along with a different local author or spoken-word performer. During the opening the creators are available to talk about their works and sign and sell books and art while free refreshments are served.

“This is a win-win for all involved,” said Bret Gardella, owner of Taste Buds. “It’s showcasing the great works of local artists and introducing people to the delicious treats we have available.”
The series is co-sponsored by Taste Buds and QuadCities.com and was conceived by Sean Leary of My Verona Productions.

“I always think it’s a great idea for synergy when you have area businesses looking to brighten things up with area creators,” Leary said. “It just highlights the vibrant businesses in the downtown as well as the talented individuals of the Q-C.” Artists and authors keep 100 percent of their sales and no previous exhibition experience is required. “We love giving new artists an opportunity to shine,” Leary said.
