
14 Mar Spring construction ramps up on Rebuild Downtown Project
Spring construction season is officially here, and Valley Construction is hard at work on the Rebuild Downtown Rock Island Project. As work continues to ramp up and traffic changes occur, please share this communication with downtown colleagues, employees, neighbors and tenants.

Construction work happening now
Current Work Week (March 17-21, 2025)
- Beginning Monday, March 17, the intersection at 2nd Avenue and 19th Street will be closed to traffic for pavement removal and underground infrastructure improvements
- The intersection will be fully reconstructed and “the bump” at 2nd Avenue and 19th Street will no longer be present at the completion of this portion of the project
- Please see the detour map below for more information
- Large vehicles may continue to drive over the miniature roundabout at the intersection of 2nd Avenue and 18th Street, as needed
- Paving of new sidewalk on the east side of the 200 block of 18th Street
- On-street parking will be temporarily unavailable
- Fence panels will be used to close off the area and allow crews to work in a safe manner
- Grading of the 1800 block of 3rd Avenue in preparation for paving new roadway
Two-Week Look Ahead (March 24-28, 2025)
- The intersection at 2nd Avenue and 19th Street will remain closed for infrastructure improvements
- Paving of new sidewalk on the west side of the 100 and 200 blocks of 18th Street
- On-street parking will be temporarily unavailable
- Fence panels will be used to close off the area and allow crews to work in a safe manner
- Paving portions of the 1800 block of 3rd Avenue
