23 May Bike to Work and Spring Cleanup events engage Downtown Rock Island workforce
Downtown Rock Island hosted two special events May 20-21, 2022, that brought community members together, built civic pride and encouraged outdoor activity throughout the historic riverfront business district.
Friday, May 20, marked National Bike to Work Day, and Downtown Rock Island and the Quad Cities Bicycle Club hosted commuting bicyclists for a free breakfast right off the Great River Trail at Schwiebert Riverfront Park. Cool Beanz Coffehouse provided breakfast burritos, pastries and iced coffee for participating cyclists. Bike & Hike (Rock Island) and the Rock Island Parks & Recreation Department also sponsored the event.
On Saturday, May 21, community members joined Downtown Rock Island and Rock Island Beautification Commission volunteers for a Spring Cleanup.
The two events engaged representatives from 34 Quad Cities area employers, half of which are located in and near Downtown Rock Island:

*Illinois Casualty Company had the largest employee turnout at the Spring Cleanup, while Royal Neighbors of America had the largest showing at the Bike to Work Day Breakfast.
