The Young Emerging Writers Summer Internship Program & SPECTRA Reading Series are Proud to Present…

SPECTRA & Young Emerging Writers are thrilled to announce two special writing/reading events, featuring poet/novelist ADAM FELL.

First, Fell will lead a poetry workshop open to all student writers (ages 15-19) in the Quad City area. The workshop will take place on Wednesday, July 17 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Rock Island Public Library in downtown Rock Island. This workshop is free & open; RSVP’s are appreciated. Please contact Ryan Collins at 309-732-7330 or [email protected] if you plan to attend.

The next evening, Thursday, July 18, Rozz-Tox will host a special SPECTRA Reading Series event, featuring Adam Fell, MC Hyland, Christine Kanownik, Becca Klaver, with a number of the Midwest Writing Center’s Young Emerging Writers (YEW) opening up the event. The event will start at 7:00 p.m. with the YEW readings, and the SPECTRA features taking the stage at 8:00 p.m.

Both of these events are free and open to the public, though donations to support MWC youth writing programs and touring writers is most appreciated.

SPECTRA Feature Bios:

Adam Fell is the author of two books of poetry: Dear Corporation (recently republished by Forklift Books) and I Am Not A Pioneer. He is an Assistant Professor of English at Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin, where he is co-curator of the Monsters of Poetry Reading Series and has just completed work on his first novel, Daughter of the Hatchet.

MC Hyland holds MFAs in Poetry and Book Arts from the University of Alabama and a PhD in English Literature from NYU. From her research, she produces scholarly and poetic texts, artists’ books, and public art projects. She is the founding editor of DoubleCross Press, a poetry micropress, as well as the author of THE END (Sidebrow 2019), Neveragainland (Lowbrow Press, 2010) and a dozen poetry chapbooks.

Christine Kanownik is the author of HEAD (Trembling Pillow Press, 2019) and KING OF PAIN (Monk Books 2016). Her poetry is can be found at FENCE, Diagram, Cosmonaut Avenue, jubilat, among others. Her chapbook We Are Now Beginning to Act Wildly was published in 2012 by Diez Press. She lives in Chicago.

Becca Klaver is the author of two books of poetry—LA Liminal (Kore Press, 2010) and Empire Wasted (Bloof Books, 2016)—and several chapbooks. Black Lawrence Press will publish her third full-length collection, Ready for the World, in 2020. Her poems, which explore place, gender, American culture, and virtual and physical realities, have appeared in The American Poetry Review, Fence, jubilat, Gramma Weekly, The &NOW Awards 3: The Best Innovative Writing, and on Verse Dailyand Poem-A-Day. The 2018-2020 Robert P. Dana Emerging Writer Fellow at Cornell College, she currently lives in Iowa City, IA.
