AUDITIONS FOR SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER

Director Amy Marie McCleary is thrilled to return to Saturday Night Fever having directed and choreographed it in Naples, Florida last spring. “It’s full of high energy dancing, soulful music and is an intense story about coming of age in the late 70’s. Full of highs and lows it’s a solid gold hit that will get your pulse racing and set your heart a glow. The timeless story of Tony Manero will get you thinking about what it means to be stuck in a way of life and how you can open your mind and break free from what might be expected of you. I strongly encourage everyone to audition.”

Tony Manero doesn’t have much going for him during the week days, but he lives for the weekends when he and his friends go to the local disco and dance the night away. When a big dance competition is announced, he wrangles the beautiful and talented Stephanie to be his partner. As the two train for the big night, they start to fall for each other as well. Based on the 1977 movie phenomenon that launched the disco era and made John Travolta a household name, Saturday Night Fever features songs from the Bee Gees and is one of the most successful movie sound tracks of all time.

SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

Tony Manero – Tenor to A. Reads early 20s. Triple threat performer with striking good looks. King of his circle with a coolness and ease to everything he does. Strong actor with a killer pop/rock voice and Brooklyn accent.

Stephanie – Mezzo with belt to D. Early to mid 20s. Actor/dancer who can sing extremely well. She represents the desire to grow and change, but she is conflicted by her attraction to Tony. Brooklyn born and bred, but with an air of sophistication which she has cultivated herself. Comfortable with partnering.

Annette – Mezzo with belt to E flat. Early 20s. Local girl who is enamored with Tony. Desperate for love and attention. Is insecure and needy. Strong actor/singer and dancer who is comfortable with partnering. Believable Brooklyn accent. Most have a powerhouse pop belt.

Bobby C – Tenor to A flat. Early 20s. Younger brother type. Heartbreaking and vulnerable. Genuine and less self-assured than the other guys. Believable Brooklyn accent. Strong mover with show-stopping pop voice.

Monty – Bari-tenor to G with strong falsetto. the DJ at the Odyssey 2000. Easy going and cooler than cool. He embodies the late 70s and will double as other roles throughout the show. Strong actor/singer who can move. Reads late 20s/early 30s.

Frank Manero Sr. **(ROLE IS CAST) – mid-50s character actor. Tony’s father, 40s-50s. Italian. Out of work construction worker who feels like the world has turned his back on him. Rules with an iron fist.

Flo Manero – Mezzo. Mid-50s character actress. Tony’s Italian mother. Opinionated, devout Catholic.

Frank Jr – Tenor to A flat. mid to late 20s. Tony’s brother who has left the priesthood. Humble, earnest & full of good advice. Strong actor. mover with pop/rock voice. Believable Brooklyn accent.

Linda/Ensemble – Actor/singer/dancer who reads mid-teens. Tony’s little sister. Sunny and spunky. Also doubles as a dancer in club.

Connie – 20s – 40s. Strong singer/dancer/actors who are comfortable with partner dancing.

Pauline/Ensemble – Early 20s. Bobby’s girlfriend. Innocent and pure, girl next door. Strong mix/belt. Singer/Actor/Dancer who will double as an amendable dance.

Candy/Ensemble – Late 20s/30s. Singer at the Odyssey 2000. Strong pop/rock/disco voice and strong mover. A showstopper.

Male & Female Ensemble – Strong singer/dancer/actors who are comfortable with partner dancing. 20s – 40s.

Those auditioning should dress comfortably, bring a resume and photo, prepare 16 bars of music from the show or a song in similar style (pop/disco) and be prepared to dance if asked to do so. Ladies must wear heels for this call. Men in character shoes. Please bring sheet music in the proper key. An accompanist will be provided.
A cappella or recorded accompaniment will not be allowed.
