Rock Island’s Circa ’21 Dinner Playhouse announces auditions for children’s roles in their 43rd season opener, the hilarious holiday tradition, ELF THE MUSICAL, based on the 2003 beloved film starring Will Farrell. This modern day holiday classic is sure to make everyone embrace their inner elf. After all, the best way to spread Christmas Cheer is singing loud for all to hear. The theatre is honored to be bringing ELF back after it’s tremendous success in the 2017 season.
Casting ELF, for his Circa ’21 directorial debut, is Jeremy Littlejohn, who appeared in the 2017 Circa ’21 production as Santa. He has since served as artistic director at Myers Dinner Theatre in Indiana.
Partnering with Littlejohn at the helm of this incredible project, for his 16th production at the Rock Island theatre, is Musical Director Travis Smith.
Littlejohn and Smith are seeking:
CHILDREN’S ENSEMBLE: Girls and Boys, who look between the ages of 6 & 10; ideally under 4′ 10″ tall; must be able to sing and move well; will perform as elves, ensemble, etc. We will be casting 8-10, children split into 2 companies, who will alternate performances.
MICHAEL: Male, Looks 12; ideally about 5′ tall; Buddy’s stepbrother who is excited to have a new friend and brother. Funny and smart, he quickly bonds with Buddy and is determined to share a great Christmas with his entire family. Unlike his mother, he doesn’t take much convincing to have Christmas spirit, but like his mother, he wishes his father would spend more time with the family. Amazing singing voice from an F3 up to a G5. His voice must not have changed. Tap dancing is a plus, though not a requirement. This role may be double-cast.
When asked what they want to see in the children who audition, the directors cited “well-behaved kids with high energy, good focus, who can hold a pitch, move well and have the ability to take direction.”
Production dates, including two weeks’ rehearsal, are October 24 – December 29, 2019. Everyone who is cast must be available during the entire period.
The theatre will double cast the Children’s Ensemble and may double cast the role of “Michael,” to minimize the time commitment during the holidays.
Those auditioning should bring a current non-returnable photo, resume, and prepare 16 bars of a Broadway or Christmas song. Please bring music in the proper key. An accompanist will be provided. A Capella singing and the use of tracks will not be permitted. Please dress casually and be prepared to learn a brief dance combination. All roles in this professional production are paid.
