Lace Up Your Lederhosen for the Lederhosen 5K
Rock Island, Ill. – The Lederhosen 5K presented by UnityPoint Health – Trinity is Saturday, September 29, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. Schwiebert Riverfront Park in downtown Rock Island.
You’re encouraged to dress up for the run/walk in your best lederhosen or dirndl. Kids aren’t left out with their own half-mile fun run called the Kinderlauf at 9 a.m. Register at www.Lederhosen5K.com
The Oktoberfest Post-Race Party is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with music, games for kids and adults, and a bounce house from Quad City Bouncy. Free admission. There will be Oktoberfest beers and food for purchase. Bring your lawn chairs and hang out for the day.
The proceeds benefit the Church of Peace’s food pantry mission and other community outreach efforts. Last year, the food pantry served over 1,700 families and supplied over 58,000 pounds of food.
The Church of Peace United Church of Christ has been located in Rock Island since 1895. Founded by German immigrants, the church was originally called Deutsche Evangelicalische Friedens Gemeinde or German Evangelical Peace Church. In 1912, the congregation built the church at its current location on 12th Street and 12th Avenue. The church is involved in outreach efforts through its Book Nook, Peacepals literacy tutoring program, ESL Classes, Diapers for Baby Jesus, and Saturday food pantry. www.ChurchofPeaceUCC.org
