Centennial Bridge over Mississippi River between Rock Island and Davenport

Location selected for replacement Centennial Bridge

Major economic development investment connecting Downtown Davenport and Rock Island

October 27, 2026

The 85-year-old Centennial Bridge (US 67) is a vital connection across the Mississippi River between the communities of Rock Island, IL and Davenport, IA, that needs to be improved to ensure safety, reliability and long-term service to the Quad Cities. Approximately 22,400 vehicles cross the Centennial Bridge daily.

At the public meeting on Oct. 21, 2026, the preferred location was selected replacing the Centennial Bridge with a new bridge immediately west of the existing structure - known as Alternative E2 - keeping the US 67 crossing in approximately the same location it is today. Presentations and information from the public hearing are available online.

What still needs to be worked through?

  • Access and potential impacts near the courthouse square and historic resources
  • Potential impacts to the BNSF Railroad building
  • Parking impacts near Modern Woodmen Park and the ice rink
  • Lane reductions and traffic impacts during construction
  • Coordination regarding the removal of the historic bridge

Public comments are being accepted online until Nov. 4, and will become part of the official public meeting record.
